Stylish pigures. One side with minotaurs, the other Roosters for pawns. With added beautifully matching original brass board with etched squares and decorations. Inscribed and dated by the artist "Hand Made, In Greece, Christopher Sclavitis, Number 19, 2/1968" Also provided a custom-made storage/display wooden box with two trays to safely store the pieces, approx. size 16" x 11" x 6". Christoforus Sklavenitis was a famous Greek artist, who lived in his later days in Chania Crete where he passed away. These chess pieces are actual and real art. In addition to making chess sets, Christoforus wrote poetry and books, created beautiful pottery and ceramics, made paintings, and hand forged bronze sculptures. He was an authority on Greek customs, art and culture and co-authored many literary pieces including a book among many, "Popular Pottery in Western Crete". |
