Later versions were marked Jerusalem, Israel. Cast bronze. Complete set of chess pieces with Teppichs characteristic design, much more ornate and detailed than any known version. Outstanding unique design, one-of-a-kind. In excellent condition. Hans Teppich was born in Germany in 1904. After finishing school in Berlin he learned art in evening classes and continued further studies for ten years, acquiring skill in broad range of art including drawing, sculpture, metalwork, bronze casting, metal turning, and interior design. He won many prizes for his art work such as bronze and stone sculptures of animals, which were exhibited in Berlin Zoo. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel and established a workshop in Jerusalem, creating Menorahs, candlesticks, Mezuzahs, spice boxes, jewelry and chess sets. He became famous for his Biblical figures and Judaic items. He passed away in 1983. See also http://www.imexco.com/antiques/imx-israeliana-teppich.html. sold. |
