Description: | The 37th Chess Olympiad, organized by FIDE and comprised an open and a women s tournaments, took place between May 20 and June 4, 2006, in Turin, Italy. There were 148 teams in the open event and 103 in the women s event. In total, 1307 players were registered. This chess set was created to commemorate and celebrate the event and is certified No. 8 of only 99 sets created. Beautifully hand carved in wood (likely Ebony and Sandalwood), this is a large set designed in the traditional Staunton style with fierce bulls (replacing the traditional horses) for knights. The set is heavily weighted in custom padded storage faux leather casket with handle and a commemorative certificate plaque affixed inside. Sold. 2021.
