Description: | This auction is for a wonderful set of older wooden bookends from the early 1960’s. A Medieval design of a castle moat with a barbican is on each one. (A barbican is a fortification, usually consisting of walls and small towers built in front of a gatehouse to provide additional protection to the gateway. Some barbicans were just towers or walls built at a right angle to the gatehouse.) The tower also looks like the ‘rook’ chess piece! Metal studs and support pieces, and apparent hand-carving of the undulating base give these bookends an authentic Medieval look! These could also be used as doorstops! |
