Found on the web: The consensus is that it is made out of vegetable ivory which is inherent to Spain. The black squares on the board are all depictions of Ecuadorian monuments. The monument names can also be found on each black tile. Each piece was carefully carved and glued together one at a time. This is why there are several minute cracks and glue beads throughout the set. The board rails seemed to have been cut, carved, glued then built up. The board measure’s 17 ½” square with the King being 4”. The set is complete and is a fine piece of history. sold |
