Description: | #2135
Fantastic, vintage Sterling Silver Chess set commemorating the conquest of the Spaniards in Central America. Bust figures in incredible details.
Spanish: King: Hernan Cortes (?); Queen; Bishops; Knights: Horses heads; Rooks: War Ships (in amazing details); Pawns: Foot soldiers with typical Spanish helmets.
Aztecs: King: Montezuma (?); Queen; Bishops; Knights: Parrots; Rooks: Aztec Pyramids; Pawns: Warriers.
Included also a large wooden board with matching Spanish and Aztec symbols on the four corners. All this is housed in a custom build, padded and compartmentalized display/storage box. Board and chess pieces are in excellent condition although a few cracks to several squares and the silver can use some cleanup and polishing. Pieces are marked/stamped (Hallmark) at the bottom, close to the bases with "SG" and a five-points star. Upon research (see https://www.silvercollection.it/): SG=Sebastian Henry Garrard- Garrard & Co Ltd, London 1928 hallmark and a five-point star=Spanish fineness indication of 915 purity since 1934. Box shows aging and is in poor condition - some peeling of the faux leather, one broken hinge etc but all intact, complete and operational. 2022. |
