Description: | #. Lorna Sakalovsky. 1980s-1990s.
Rare, Unique Chess Set made in ceramics by artist Lorna Sakalovsky form Jerusalem, Israel in the 1980s-1990s. As stated in the Declaration of Authenticity certificate "Your sculpture was handmade by me in the Old City of Jerusalem. The finest stoneware clays were stained by the use of oxides and modelled by hand to the correct shape. The parts were joined together, allowed to dry and fired in a kiln to 1260 degrees Celsius / 2900 degrees Fahrenheit".
The figural pieces represent Jews dressed in traditional holiday / ceremonial clothing, celebration of events in Jewish life such as the Shabat, reading the Torah and Bar-mitzva and other traditions such as the blowing of the shofar and lighting of the Shabat candles and a menorah. All delivered in charming, whimsical way.
