Description: | Rare, hand-sculpted glass crystal Chess Set by famed Belgian glassmith John Paul Lejeune. Known for his fluidity of movement, considered a glass sculptor of the highest caliber, his pieces are in the White House among many prestigious locations worldwide.
No two creations exactly alike, his graceful, intricate chess pieces are nestled in a beveled Lucite performing platform for ease of play. The competing forces are formed in both crystal styles of clear and frosted. Etched in glass, the set is signed and numbered 18/20 on the bottom of the clear King. Note a small repair to the peg of the frosted King. Is not visible and does not jeopardize the integrity of the piece.
The platform itself is made of approx. 2" thick Lucite block of 17" x 17".
Monsieur Lejeune was known for creating "frozen moments" of nature in his glass sculptures; his talent exceeded the art of glass blowing. 2024. For sale. |
